Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has discussed Stefon Diggs’ future with the team amid rife speculation.
It’s been rumored that the Bills no longer consider the wideout to be their No. 1 following yet another playoff disappointment. Diggs dropped a crucial catch in the fourth quarter of last weekend’s Divisional Round game vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, sparking suggestions of a change.
Beane, speaking to ESPN, admitted that the team will look to make changes but will be building around Diggs, not without him.
“Stef’s, he’s a No. 1 receiver. I firmly believe that, not wavering off of that,” the GM said. “… Listen, we have to continue to put weapons out there to keep teams from bracketing him or, you know, locking him down in different ways to take him away. They know you are going to want him.
“Stef can still play, I’m sure he would love to have that deep ball again, he’d be the first to tell you. He’s super competitive, he’s going to work his tail off this offseason. I know there’s various reasons or questions on this or his production, all that, but I still see Stef as a No. 1 receiver.”
Following Diggs’ drop, the Bills missed a chance to send the game to overtime as kicker Tyler Bass failed to score a 44-yard field goal. They will now have to watch the Chiefs play the Baltimore Ravens for a chance to appear in next month’s Super Bowl.
