The Buffalo Bills have fired two of their top executives for having a relationship deemed to be “unethical.”
The Athletic’s Tim Graham is reporting that team owner Terry Pegula has fired Bills and Sabres chief operating officer and executive vice president John Roth because he was discovered to have been in a relationship with senior vice president and general counsel Kathryn D’Angelo, who was let go as well.
According to Graham, the relationship was considered to be unethical because D’Angelo reported to Roth. It would seem that the hook-up between the two was not a well-kept secret, but things got out of hand when they “got too brazen” during the team’s recent trip to London and “became an issue that had to be addressed.”
Graham also pointed out that this scandal isn’t the first of its nature where the ream is concerned, with Bills and Sabres president Russ Brandon resigning after an investigation into workplace misconduct and inappropriate relationships with female employees was opened up in 2018.
Senior vice president of finance and business administration, Josh Dziurlikowski, will serve as the COO on an interim basis while senior adviser Jim Overdorf will conduct a search outside of the organization to fill the vacated positions.

Roth was promoted to COO of the Bills in July, having taken up the position for the Sabres six months prior.
D’Angelo had been with the Bills for seven years; she was appointed general counsel this April.
They have both confirmed their terminations via a joint call with the Associated Press.
“Both Kathryn and I wish the Pegulas the best of luck and we think the world of Terry, Kim and Laura, and the rest of the team,” Roth was quoted as saying. “And we will be cheering the Bills and Sabres on from afar.”
