The Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers are scheduled for a Saturday-night fixture set to stream exclusively on NBC’s Peacock.
The NFL has announced that the game will be the first of its kind as the fourth quarter will be commercial-free, something NBCUniversal says will cut down on standard ad time for an NFL game by 40 percent (12 minutes).
Coordinating producer for the network’s ‘Sunday Night Football’, Roy Hyland, revealed that they held talks with the league for several months about how to make the broadcast unique.
“The limited stoppages are exciting for me as someone that wants to tell the story of the game and have the time to do it,” he said, per the Associated Press.
Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, and Melissa Stark will speak about game storylines during one of the two-minute-and-20-second breaks while the ‘Football Night in America’ studio will take charge of the other to share their takes on the game, as well as on Week 16’s remaining games.
Hyland has lots of experience producing ad-free or limited-ad events, having been one of the lead producers for NBC’s prime-time Olympic coverage.
