The Patriots have reportedly hired Bill O’Brien as their offensive coordinator for the 2023 season. After getting fired as head coach of the Houston Texans, he headed back to the college ranks to spend the past two season with the Alabama Crimson Tide to get his name hot again.
You may remember that O’Brien spent a few years as an assistant coach for the Patriots before becoming the team’s offensive coordinator in 2011.
Him being rehired by the team has now started rumors that Tom Brady might come back to the team. The 45-year-old is set to be a free agent this offseason.
“Now that Bill O’Brien is back, let the speculation begin that Tom Brady might return as well,” Dov Kleiman tweeted. “Brady loves OB and reportedly wants to play again under his coaching.”
It remains unclear if he will return or retire. The 45-year-old Brady spent the past three seasons in Tampa Bay following 20 years with the Patriots, with whom he won six Super Bowls.
Teams such as the Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans have been rumored to be in the mix for Brady’s services if he decides to leave the Buccaneers. However, the seven-time world champion said Monday on his SiriusXM podcast, “Let’s Go!” that he has not made a concrete decision about his next steps.

“If I knew what I was going to f–king do, I’d have already f–king done it,” Brady told host Jim Gray. “I’m taking it a day at a time.”
O’Brien’s last NFL stop was with the Houston Texans, where he was the head coach for six-and-a-half seasons before his ouster in October 2020. Among his bad decisions was him trading DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for next to nothing.
