New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been accused of making a first-round trade just so he could screw over the New York Jets.
The Pats made a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers that saw them go up three spots on Thursday night, from 17th to 14th. And they only needed to give the 120th overall pick up in exchange.
Folks around the NFL seem to believe that Bill fashioned the trade in order to keep the Jets away from offensive lineman target Broderick Jones. It’s no secret that the Patriots HC has little love for the Jets, but that was pretty sneaky, as well as costly.
“They should have had to give up a [third-round pick] and not a four to move up there,” an NFL general manager told the Washington Post. “Belichick did it just to f— the Jets. He sold low because he knew the Steelers were going to take the kid the Jets wanted to take.”
Another NFL executive said, “Bill will try to screw them over any chance he gets. He knew exactly what he was doing.”
It wasn’t hard to figure out that the Jets would want to augment their offensive line after acquiring Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers, given the fact that quarterback protection was a sore point for them in 2022.

Jones was thought to be the best OL among prospects playing the position and, in trading for Rodgers, the Jets seemingly threw away the chance to draft a player they were keen on as they had to swap first-round picks as part of the trade for the star QB.
Sensing the opportunity, Belichick swooped in to ensure Jones would be off the board before NY had a chance to get to him.
Well played, Bill. Well played.
