Bill Belichick did not have to answer this question, but he decided to do so anyway.
After the shock of Cam Newton being released on Tuesday subsides, rumors suggested that he was put off the roster for being unvaccinated. Head coach Bill Belichick was asked about that on Wednesday.
Asked if Cam Newton’s vaccination status was a factor in his release, Bill Belichick says: “No.”
“Your implication that the vaccination solves every problem…has not been substantiated. The number of players and coaches and staff members who have been infected with COVID after being vaccinated is a pretty high number. I wouldn’t lose sight of that.”

Newton was forced to be away from the team for five days due to what the team called a misunderstanding of league’s COVID protocols. The quarterback had traveled to a team-approved medical appointment and tested negative each day he was gone, but did not satisfy the NFL’s policy.
Because of that, he missed three practices and rookie QB Mac Jones took full advantage of it.
