Unlike any other season in recent memory, it appears that Bill Belichick might be on the hottest seat in the league.
The Patriots have missed the playoffs twice in the last three seasons after the franchise made the playoffs almost every year from 2000-20.
Patriots reporter Ben Volin says the nice surrounding Belichick being fired will continue to get louder and mapped out if certain things happen in 2023, it could lead to him being shown his walking papers.
“If they have a losing record again; if Mac Jones has another sideways season and the offense isn’t better, the team is boring again, I definitely think Belichick is on the hot seat and there’s a chance he doesn’t come back next year. Again, I think it would have to be a disastrous kind of season, but 7-10 and Mac is screaming at the coaches again, I definitely think that could happen,” Volin said, (first transcribed by NESN).
The Patriots have had a hard time winning much since the departure of Tom Brady.
Brady and Belichick won six Super Bowls together throughout the quarterback’s tenure in New England, and the duo is widely considered to be the best coach-quarterback pairing of all time.
After Brady left the Patriots following the 2019 season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the since-retired signal-caller won one Super Bowl and led Tampa Bay to the playoffs three times.

Since Brady departed New England after the 2019 season, Belichick has led the Patriots to a 25-25 record and just one postseason appearance
Mac Jones, who threw just 14 touchdowns in 2022 against 11 interceptions, is also likely on the hot seat as the team is hoping Bill O’Brien can get him back to the version he showed as a rookie when he led the team to the postseason.
