Patriots head coach Bill Belichick reportedly knows which team he wants to go to if he leaves New England after an illustrious 24-year run.
The Patriots have dropped eight of their first 10 games this season, and they’re on pace to finish with their worst record under Belichick (they went 5-11 in his first season as head coach back in 2020).
With the Pats headed for another losing and non-playoff season, many expect Belichick to a) be fired or b) agree to a “parting of ways” with owner Robert Kraft.
Speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show” (h/t Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post), ESPN insider and former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky claimed that Belichick already knows which team he wants to coach in 2024.
“I’ve heard more and more of that over the last week. I’m not a reporter, but I have heard that. I have heard that’s going to be the case. Who knows the likelihood of it, but I’ve heard it’s going to happen, and I’ve heard the location is already kind of determined as well.”
Orlovsky didn’t name the team, but there are certainly plenty of logical landing spots for Belichick. His respect and admiration of the New York Giants’ organization (Belichick was an assistant there from 1979 to 1990) is well-known.

Perhaps he’d be intrigued by the idea of trying to fix a historic albeit longtime losing franchise like the Washington Commanders or the Chicago Bears. If he wants to join a team in win-now mode, the Los Angeles Chargers, Dallas Cowboys (if Mike McCarthy gets let go, that is) and New Orleans Saints make sense.
Only Belichick knows deep down which team(s) he’d like to join if a divorce from New England is on the horizon. One thing is for sure, though: He won’t be done as an NFL head coach in 2024 unless he decides to walk away on his own terms.
