New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick should be going into next season wary of the fact that he could leave football looking like a real loser should he hit a certain mark, despite the fact that he’s won six Super Bowls.
Belichick is only 30 wins away from tying the late Don Shula for the most wins in NFL history. It might take him at least three seasons to get there, but he could end up setting an unwanted and embarrassing record before he reaches it.
CBS Sports has pointed out that the Pats HC is statistically closer to hitting the league’s all-time regular-season loss record than the all-time wins record as he’s already compiled 152 losses and is only 13 away from the record of 165 currently shared by Jeff Fisher and Dan Reeves.
Bill is in real danger of setting the undesirable record as he could go 12-5 over the next two seasons and still be closer to it than Shula’s milestone.
The conversation is a bit different when the category gets changed to regular season and playoff wins and losses, so perhaps it’s not going to be all that bad if Bill ends up having the most regular-season losses in league history.
His name is currently involved in a debate over who’s the better NFL head coach, with many fans siding with Andy Reid while pointing out that his six rings are more Tom Brady’s doing than his own.

If he ends up retiring as the all-time leader in wins, however, the argument would be put to bed.
