The Washington Commanders have been heavily mentioned as the front-runners for Bill Belichick, who’s widely expected to leave the New England Patriots after this season.
With the Patriots (2-8) headed for a third losing and non-playoff campaign in four years, many expect either a) owner Robert Kraft to fire Belichick or b) the two sides to agree to a “parting of ways” after the season.
Commanders fan and popular sports personality PFT Commenter (real name Eric Sollenberger) appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and stated that the rumors of Belichick going of Washington “are real” and that they “could happen.”
Deep down, only Belichick knows which team(s) he’d be interested in coaching if he does leave the Patriots. The Commanders aren’t anywhere close to title contention, but Belichick might like the challenge of rebuilding a once-proud and historic franchise with super deep-pocketed owners.
Veteran NFL journalist and author Gary Myers recently heard through a source that the Los Angeles Chargers are actually the front-runners to land Belichick. With a star-studded roster and a franchise quarterback (Justin Herbert) in place, the Bolts make perfect sense for Belichick if he wants to join a competitive team that’s ready for Super Bowl contention.

For now, Belichick is staying focused on getting his Patriots ready for their Week 12 road game against his old club, the New York Giant. New England is on a bye week following their Week 10 game in Germany.
