It appears Bill Belichick won’t be a head coach in the NFL next season, but a position may open up sooner than he thinks.
The legendary NFL coach left his role with the New England Patriots last month and only received two interviews, which were both from the Atlanta Falcons. He was reportedly offered the job but turned it down so they hired someone else.
In a recent column, ESPN’s Dan Graziano printed up a list of the 80 most compelling storylines leading into the 2024 NFL season.
Graziano observed that whispers of Belichick’s name would likely linger around the Cowboys who shockingly decided they would keep Mike McCarthy as head coach after yet another failed postseason undr his leadership.
“Belichick’s presence will loom over every hot-seat coaching situation all season, as he’s just 14 wins behind Don Shula for the most in NFL history (sitting at 333, including playoffs). But he’ll also be 73 years old when the 2025 season starts, and only one team expressed serious interest in him this offseason after the Patriots let him go. Could Belichick’s coaching days be done?”
His “strong relationship” with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones could prove crucial in the long-term, per ESPN.
NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler claims Belichick is a “history buff” and that may influence his next choice of job. He also added the Chicago Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles as potential landing spots.

The Cowboys handed Mike McCarthy another chance, but should he falter in the regular season or the postseason yet again, he will most certainly be shown the door.
Belichick spent 24 years with New England and won six Super Bowl rings in Foxborough. His reign came to an end last month as New England decided to move on following a disappointing season.
The Pats finished the regular campaign 4-13, their third losing season in the last four years as the team has struggled to regain their footing after Tom Brady left for Tampa Bay.
