You would think winning a ton of Super Bowls would possibly give you a job for life, but the NFL has turned into a ‘what have you done for me lately?’ type of league and it spares nobody.
According to Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is one of the coaches on the “hot seat” heading into the 2023 campaign.
“…owner Bob Kraft is said to be getting impatient that the team has not had a playoff win in the last four seasons.
Factors have included the dissolution of the relationship with Tom Brady, who went on to win a Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, and the decision to have the offense run by Matt Patricia, previously a defensive coach, which led to disastrous results last season.”
Along with Tom Brady, Belichick was at the helm of arguably the greatest dynasty that the league has ever seen. From 2001 until 2019, the Patriots won 10+ games in all but one season.
However, the Patriots haven’t won a playoff game since winning the Super Bowl during the 2018 season.
Bill Belichick is one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, but he could be without a job if the Patriots struggle this season. The storybook ending took a turn when Brady left for Tampa, where he proved that he had plenty left in the tank by winning a Super Bowl on his own.
The Patriots have had just one winning season since 2020, and have an even 25-25 record over that span. They haven’t been terrible, but it is a far cry from the dominance that the franchise enjoyed for so many years.
