New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has shared his feelings on Mac Jones following reports claiming he’s still bitter over the quarterback seeking help from outside sources last season.
Belichick and Jones weren’t thought to be on the best of terms during and after the 2022 season, leading to rumors the latter could be traded. But it’s now clear that the Pats intend to move forward with the former first-round pick on the back of his struggles last term.
Speaking to reporters this weekend, Belichick insisted he’s still high on the QB.
“Yeah, I mean, look, Mac’s been our quarterback for two years,” he said, per ESPN. “As I tell the team every year, each player, each coach, we all have to re-establish and prove ourselves every year. That’s what this league is. That’s for all of us – ’23 is ’23. We’ll see how ’23 goes.”
Jones wasn’t put in the best situation to have success in 2022. Now, he is expected to show improvement as the team has since brought Bill O’Brien in as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

O’Brien also had good things to say about Jones, praising the player’s work ethic as he talked up the Pats’ QB outlook.
“The quarterback room has been really good,” the 53-year-old offered. “Mac Jones has worked really, really hard this offseason. Been here every day. We just started working [in the voluntary offseason program] two weeks [ago] and that’s been good. A lot of good meetings. A lot of good give-and-take.”
