NFL insiders reportedly believe that a new career would tremendously suit Bill Belichick, should the 71-year-old step away from coaching.
The Patriots are off to an ugly 1-3 start, and speculation is ramping up that New England owner Robert Kraft will fire the greatest coach of all-time at season’s end. Entering Week 5, the Pats are a mere 26-29 since Tom Brady’s 2020 departure.
According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, league insiders think that the eight-time Super Bowl champion would flourish as an NFL television analyst:
“Bill Belichick, notorious for his curt answers during interviews — and prickly attitude toward the media — could be a great NFL TV analyst if he ever wanted to try, some sports TV insiders believe.
The 71-year-old coach is still chasing the late, great Don Shula for all-time coaching wins, and he’s the highest-paid head coach in the NFL, pulling down an estimated $20 million….
Those who know Belichick say he’s funny, engaging, and incisive behind the scenes. A walking, talking encyclopedia of football knowledge.”
“Belichick is super, super engaging with those he talks to. He knows the history of the game inside and out,” Peter Schrager of NFL Network told McCarthy. “If Belichick ever wanted to do this, I would be a captive audience to listen to him on one of these shows. He’d be great.”
Belichick is known for not exactly being friendly and talkative with reporters, but his knowledge in American football goes unmatched. Belichick won a Sports Emmy Award for his analysis on the “NFL 100” series, where the league documented 100 of the all-time greats in football.

And as McCarthy noted, four Patriots legends in Rob Gronkowski, Devin McCourty, Julian Edelman and Brady are now in the world of NFL media. Brady will join FOX Sports as an NFL analyst in 2024, working alongside play-by-play voice Kevin Burkhardt and sideline reporter Erin Andrews.
Belichick has been a coach in the NFL since 1975, starting out as a special assistant for the Baltimore Ravens. He’s been head coach of the Patriots since 2000, leading the franchise to six Super Bowl championships between the 2001 and 2018 seasons.
If the Patriots do move on from Belichick? There certainly wouldn’t be a shortage of NFL teams interested in his services, but only Belichick really knows what he’d want to do in his post-New England endeavors.
