Amid questions about his future with the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick reportedly has his plans settled for 2024.
That is, he’s planning to coach one way or another.
Speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show”, former Cleveland Browns executive and Patriots scout Michael Lombardi reported that Belichick plans to coach in 2024 — regardless of Robert Kraft’s decision on him after this season.
“Bill Belichick still wants to coach and obviously the Patriots team isn’t playing well,” Lombardi said. “If Robert Kraft feels like it’s time to make a change that’s fine…Bill Belichick still wants to prove that he’s a really good coach and he’ll go somewhere else.”
The Patriots’ Week 12 road loss to the New York Giants clinched the franchise’s third losing season in four years. This once-proud franchise is also headed for a fifth straight season without notching a single playoff victory.
With the Patriots getting worse and worse in the post-Tom Brady era, many expect Kraft to part ways with Belichick after the season. If that ends up being the case, the 71-year-old will immediately become the most sought-after coach in the next NFL hiring cycle.

There have already been two in-season coaching changes, with the Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers firing Josh McDaniels and Frank Reich, respectively.
The Washington Commanders (coached by Ron Rivera), Los Angeles Chargers (Brandon Staley), New Orleans Saints (Dennis Allen) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Todd Bowles) are among the other clubs expected to change coaches during or after this season.
Belichick’s tenure in New England may be winding down soon, but it’ll likely just open the door for the greatest head coach in NFL history to cement his legacy elsewhere. He already turned one franchise around, and surely the future Hall of Famer can do it a second time elsewhere.
