The New England Patriots have made a decision on their quarterback situation ahead of their Week 6 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Fans have been calling for Bill Belichick to bench Mac Jones following the team’s 1-4 start to the season. But the head coach has revealed that Jones will remain as the team’s starter despite their recent blowout losses.
“Yeah, we’re not making any changes,” Belichick replied following a question on the Pats’ QB situation this Wednesday.
The New England defense surrendered 72 points over the last two games against the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. Jones and the offense have responded by scoring a total of three points over the two-game span.
Jones has completed 62.5 percent of his passes so far this season, throwing for 1,008 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions. His struggles have prompted fans to urge his benching, and Belichick just might consider it if things do not improve in a timely fashion.
Bailey Zappe, who performed very well after Jones went down with an ankle last season, is the backup option. Whether he ends up taking over from the sputtering Jones at some point remains to be seen.
