Tonight, those who tuned into Sunday Night Football witnessed one of the greatest, most entertaining games in NFL regular season history.
Entering the game, it was well known that the winner of the game would get a spot in the postseason, along with the Pittsburgh Steelers — who had snuck into the playoffs with an overtime win over the Ravens and a Colts loss to the Jags earlier in the day…
HOWEVER!!!! There was one scenario where the Steelers WOULDN’T make the playoffs, and BOTH the Chargers and the Raiders WOULD! All the two AFC West foes had to do was tie their night game and they would both be into the postseason, leaving Pittsburgh on the outside looking in.
Many wondered whether Vegas and LA would play for the tie and secure their respective playoff tickets if the Colts lost earlier in the day. Heck, one dude even bet on it!
And, while they clearly weren’t trying to finish in a tie, it almost happened!
After a wild fourth quarter comeback, the two teams went to overtime tied 29-29. Then, they exchanged field-goals on their opening drives of the extra frame, leaving them deadlocked at 32 apiece with only a few minutes remaining. At that moment, many thought they would just play for the tie. And it was looking that way, too. But then, the Raiders were able to drive just far enough to set Daniel Carlson up for a 47-yard field goal that won it for the Raiders, eliminated the Chargers from the playoffs, and costed one poor bettor a whole lot of money.
This parlay on betting site Bet365 needed the Jaguars to win and the Raiders and Chargers to tie in order to turn $22.33 into $10,003.84. It was a longshot, to say the least, but it came oh so close to coming through:

I sure do hope this bettor took the cashout option at some point during the overtime frame. Else Brandon Staley cost this poor dude a cool $10k.
