Brock Purdy’s miserable four-pick outing in the San Francisco 49ers’ 33-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night probably cost himself the 2023 NFL MVP award.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson had another MVP-like outing on “Monday Night Football”, but the defense paved the way to victory with four interceptions off Purdy.
Not that it matters one bit to Purdy and the 49ers, but countless bettors and fantasy football players lost aplenty in the Ravens’ statement road win over the NFC’s top team. There’s at least one bettor out there who especially took Purdy’s awful performance on the chin.
Last week, Darren Rovell reported that a fan sold a Purdy MVP ticket on PropSwap for a whopping $125,000. As you can see on the ticket, the fan placed $2,000 on Purdy (+10000 odds) to win 2023 NFL MVP honors.
If Purdy wins MVP, the person who purchased that ticket on PropSwap will take in $202,000. That now feels extremely unlikely given Purdy’s Monday night performance, as most sportsbooks have Jackson, Christian McCaffrey and Tua Tagovailoa above him in the betting odds.
The NFL MVP award has gone to a quarterback every year since 2013, and all but one year since 2008 (RB Adrian Peterson won it in 2012). The award often goes to the quarterback on the best team, and Purdy was certainly neck-and-neck with Jackson heading into Week 16.

But Jackson’s Ravens now boast football’s best record at 12-3 with two weeks to go. He has completed 66.3 percent of his pass attempts for 3,357 yards and 19 touchdowns to go along with 786 rushing yards and five rushing scores.
It’s not a knock against Purdy, but he also has the honors of playing with McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk. Considering that some sportsbooks have McCaffrey ahead of Purdy in the MVP betting odds, it’s awfully difficult to see the latter winning the honors now.
