Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins could find himself on the trading block should the parties fail to come to an extension agreement.
Higgins, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, is undoubtedly one of the best in the NFL at his position, having recorded 215 receptions and 3023 receiving yards since getting drafted. The WR logged 1091 yards last season and 1029 this term.
While he has the markings of a player any team would be very keen on keeping, the Bengals could consider a trade for a top draft pick.
According to The Athletic, Higgins could be moved if Cincinnati deems his contract demands “outrageous.” Higgins signed a four-year $8.6 million contract with the Bengals as a rookie, having gotten drafted out of the second round in 2020, and it appears he’s looking for a substantial raise.
If the numbers are outrageous and it’s clear the two sides won’t see eye to eye, the Bengals could go the route taken by multiple teams in recent seasons and deal the receiver for a top draft pick and start the cycle over with a rookie receiver.
The Bengals are looking to secure the futures of multiple offensive players, including Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. They have $44 million in cap space, which is the fourth-highest among teams in the league.
