Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Joe Burrow has provided an encouraging update on his recovery from season-ending wrist surgery.
Burrow’s 2023 season ended abruptly in a Week 11 Thursday night game against the Baltimore Ravens, when he tore a ligament in his right wrist. The Bengals were 5-4 heading into that game but wound up finishing 9-8 without Burrow to miss out on the postseason.
Speaking to Ben Baby of ESPN.com on Sunday, Burrow revealed that he expects to receive the green light for full contact by mid-May.
“I think middle of May is when I am expecting to kind of be cleared for full contact and everything,” Burrow told Baby. “Over the next month [to] month and a half, we’ll kind of decide all those things.”
After a disappointing 1-3 start, Burrow rallied Cincinnati to four straight W’s to reassert them as a Super Bowl contender. This included a blowout road win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8 and a 24-18 home win over the Buffalo Bills on “Sunday Night Football.”
But the Bengals’ latest bid for a Super Bowl all but ended after Burrow’s injury. The good news is that he should be fully recovered well ahead of the 2024 season as the Bengals prepare again to try and bring Cincinnati its first ever Lombardi Trophy.
