The XFL has made a grand return, this time under new management.
The games kicked off on Saturday, with the Vegas Vipers and Arlington Renegades playing the first fixture of the new season as the league debuted for a third time.
Sunday saw the Seattle Sea Dragons take on the DC Defenders in another thriller. Ben DiNucci, a former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, was on show for the Sea Dragons, leading an offense touted to be the best in the XFL. They’re going to have to prove that in the games that follow as they recorded a loss in their season opener. DiNucci, though, made quite an impression and drew comparisons to Patrick Mahomes
The signal-caller completed 35 of 54 passes for 282 yards, two interceptions, and a touchdown. That touchdown pass was every bit as spectacular as those flicks we’ve seen from Mahomes. You could check it out below.
The pass was caught by the Josh Gordon you know (in case you were wondering), a former Cleveland Browns star who was suspended by the NFL on five occasions for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. His XFL debut yielded 74 yards, as well as that TD.
DiNucci didn’t see success in Dallas after getting drafted and was one of four QBs who started for the team in 2020 when they went 6-10. But his two-year stint there has paid off in another way you could read about right here.
