David Montgomery suffered a knee injury Sunday against the Detroit Lions that has the Bears fan base in shambles.
The Chicago Bears running back appeared to suffer a serious knee injury in the second half of Sunday’s game when he was tackled after a run. It was so bad that FOX refused to show a replay. He was seen limping along the sidelines moments later and was eventually ruled out for the game.
Here’s a look at the play that could leave the Bears without their starting running back for quite some time:
Montgomery had carried the ball 23 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns prior to exiting. He was 6th in the league in rushing yards heading into Sunday afternoon’s game.
The 24-year-old rushed for 4.4 yards per carry as the Bears’ top back through their first three games. He’s gained 203 total yards and scored one touchdown.

Since being taken in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft, Montgomery has assumed the bulk of the backfield workload.
Even without their workhorse back, the Bears were still able to hang on for the 24-14 victory over the division rival Detroit Lions. With the win, they improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Lions are still looking for their first win at 0-4.
