Many wondered at the beginning of the offseason whether the Chicago Bears would opt to trade the first-overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, or keep it to select a top quarterback prospect while trading away their current star QB, Justin Fields.
It was later reported that the Bears would try to trade the coveted pick, and now the deal is finally done.
According to several reports, the Bears are sending the first overall pick to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for the 9th and 61st overall picks in this year’s draft, the Panthers’ first-round pick in 2024, their second-round pick in 2025, and star wide receiver DJ Moore.

The Panthers gave up a ton of draft capital and their best wide receiver, but they will now get their choice of quarterback to build this franchise around for the next couple decades. They clearly had no interest in navigating the free agent and trade market for another quarterback after the failed Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield experiments.

Meanwhile, the Bears get a ton of much-needed draft capital as they undergo a massive rebuild. And they also get the number one wideout that they’ve failed to provide Justin Fields with through his first two seasons in the league.
