It didn’t take long for kicker Cody Parkey to fall out of favor in Chicago. A bunch of missed kicks in the regular season already had him on thin ice, but the team still stuck with him.
It turned out to be their downfall after Parkey shanked a 43-yard field goal off 2 uprights to send the Bears home for the year and the Eagles to the divisional round.
Several Bears fan started a crowdfunding campaign to buy out Parkey’s contract and send him packing forever.
Here’s one. Another one. Here’s one to get him a plane ticket out of Chicago. One more.
The 26-year-old kicker signed in Chicago this offseason on a four-year, $15 million contract, with 60 percent of it guaranteed at signing.
Parkey finished the regular season 23-of-30 on field goals, good for 76.7 percent accuracy, and 41-of-44 on extra points (93.2 percent). If Chicago released Parkey in the offseason, they would add over $5 million in dead cap money while taking just over $4 million off the books, saving no cap space in the process.
