Emily Mayfield has been noticeably quiet after her husband completed just 16-of-38 passes for 185 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game was just days after she stated he had been receiving death threats and after she posted stats that compared him to the likes of Brett Favre and Drew Brees.
Emily broke her silence on Instagram and it has stirred up speculation about the quarterback’s future with the Cleveland Browns. She seems to be hinting towards a departure from Cleveland in a post grabbed from her Instagram story:
“I’m going to miss this place,” Emily Mayfield wrote in an Instagram story, referring to a gym she attends.
It was announced this week that Mayfield will be getting surgery as soon as possible on his injured shoulder so he will be miss the final game of the year since the team has been eliminated from playoff contention and is playing for nothing other than draft position.
“I’m an extremely competitive guy, I think you guys know that,” Mayfield said Monday after being sacked nine times against the Steelers. “But now it’s time for me to start looking at what’s in the best interest for me and my health. I’ve continued to lay it out on the line and I haven’t been healthy and tried to fight for our guys. Right now I’m pretty damn beat up, to be honest with you. There’s no way around it. I gave it everything I had tonight.”
Mayfield criticized the offense after the team’s 26-14 loss to the Steelers, making it clear he was unhappy with how he was protected. He found himself being sacked many times during the game.
