Baker Mayfield and his wife Emily reckon they may have been swindled out of $12 million.
According to KXAN.com, attorneys representing the interests of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback and his spouse filed a petition in a Texas court that should get them information on the potential misuse of the aforementioned sum by an investment firm where certain members of the QB’s family work.
Several defendants are named in the petition, including Camwood Capital Management Group, Camwood Ventures, Texas Contract Manufacturing Group, Unitech, Apex Machining, and Lor-Van, while a Travis County District Court has been asked to hand over records dating back to 2018.
“Petitioners simply do not know if their money has been properly and competently invested, has been stolen or otherwise misappropriated, or something in between,” the petition reads.
Mayfield has made just under $50 million from football, having gotten drafted in 2018. He signed a one-year deal worth $8.5 million with the Bucs this year.
“On information and belief, a substantial sum of Petitioners’ assets were transferred out of Petitioners’ personal accounts to TCMG, potentially at the direction and supervision of Camwood Group and/or Camwood Ventures, and were used by TCMG to fund certain investments, make certain acquisitions, or to fund certain loans. Other of Petitioners’ assets were transferred directly to Camwood Ventures and invested in various entities on behalf of Petitioners,” the petition also notes.

Mayfield and his wife aren’t believed to be planning to sue anyone at the moment. They’re simply trying to access information pertaining to the sum. Witnesses named in the document are also the immediate relatives of the QB.
