Looks like Daniel Jones has at least one more person who doesn’t think much of him.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield ripped into the Giants’ decision to even take him with the #6 overall pick in the 2019 Draft during a recent interview with GQ Magazine.
Mayfield basically pointed to Jones going 17-19 as a 3=year starter for the Duke Blue Devils.
“Some people overthink it,” Mayfield told the magazine in a long feature. “That’s where people go wrong. They forget you’ve gotta win.”
Mayfield is just one of many people who questioned the Giants’ decision to take Jones over Ohio State star Dwayne Haskins, or at least wait until the 17th pick to take Jones as he wasn’t on anybody’s radar to be taken in the 1st round at all.
“I cannot believe the Giants took Daniel Jones,” said Mayfield.
It should be noted these comments may have been taken well before Jones took the field twice for the team in preseason and had an impressive showing, completing 16-of-19 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns.

Still, the comments are out there right now.
“Either you have a history of winning and being that guy for your team or you don’t,” he told GQ.
Aside from trashing Jones — Mayfield also spoke on his flag planting in Ohio stadium after the Sooners defeated Ohio State in 2017. He said he was told to apologize and that was “just jaw-dropping” to him.
“Actually we won. That’s what we’re about. I had done so much and worked so hard to play for that school, I was just kinda. … almost embarrassed for them to tell me to apologize,” said Mayfield, who, when asked how heartfelt that apology actually was on a scale of 1 to 10, replied, “zero.”
“Which might hurt some Ohio fans’ feelings,” he added. “But I think we’re all good now.”
