Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has destroyed Detroit Lions safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson ahead of their divisional-round matchup this weekend.
The defensive star took a shot at Mayfield this week, suggesting he isn’t that good of a QB.
“If you give that Tampa group a good quarterback, that’s a great group. Evans, Godwin, (Russell) Gage, that’s a great group. I played against them for real,” he said per the Detroit Free Press.
Of course, Mayfield and the Bucs benefitted from a weak NFC South this season but to discount his importance would be unfair, especially considering he fired them to a 5-1 finish to the season and took apart the defending NFC Champions in the previous round.
Mayfield was asked about Gardner-Johnson’s comments by reporters on Wednesday and had the perfect comeback, pointing out that the defender can’t be watching film as he would have known that Russell Gage hasn’t played a single snap all season.
