Baker Mayfield is not just sitting around and being upset at the Cleveland Browns for essentially throwing him away when they traded for Deshaun Watson.
The current Browns quarterback is starting to put the work in for his next team by hiring a new quarterbacks coach. It’s significant, because it’s the same quarterbacks coach who works with Patrick Mahomes. Mayfield is working with Jeff Christensen to improve his mechanics and throwing motion.
“One last interesting point that I’m hearing is that Baker Mayfield is out in Texas right now working out with Patrick Mahomes’ quarterback coach Jeff Christensen to improve mechanics, to improve his throwing motion,” Tony Pauline said. “That is what Mitch Trubisky did and we saw how well he did in free agency.”
Mayfield was drafted No. 1 overall by the 0-16 Browns in 2018, before immediately improving the team after taking over for the injured Tyrod Taylor, leading his squad to a 6-7 record. He tossed 27 touchdown passes to just 14 interceptions.
Two years later, he led Cleveland to its most successful season in nearly two decades in 2020, surging to a remarkable 11-5 record and a playoff victory over division rival Pittsburgh.
The 2021 season was a major step down as he finished with the fifth-lowest quarterback in the league.
