When it comes to giving your opinion on something, Baker Mayfield does not mince words about how he feels, even if it has something to do with a current teammate.
Well over a week ago, Browns running back Duke Johnson stated multiple times that he would like for the franchise to trade him as he felt “unwanted” following their signing of free agent RB Kareem Hunt.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield had little to no sympathy for him and his situation.
“It’s self-inflicted. It is what it is. It’s not awkward for anyone else in this building,” Mayfield told reporters when asked about Johnson’s trade request. “He’s gotta do his job. He said he was a professional. I hope he does his job.”
Mayfield added: ““You’re either on this train or you’re not.”
Before this trade, Johnson had seen his role diminish considerably over the years, but this recent signing was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
NFL Network’s Michael Silver reported on Thursday that several Browns players approached Mayfield in the locker room about his comments.
“According to multiple sources, several veteran Browns players approached Baker Mayfield in the locker room after the young QB’s critical comments about RB Duke Johnson to register their displeasure, and they hashed out their differences,” he reports.
