Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is set to hit free agency.
Mayfield played surprisingly well this past season after having cycled through four teams in the last three years. Now, he has re-established himself as a starting-quality quarterback in the NFL and many teams would love to have him.
Quarterback, of course, is the most important position on the team. And it’s even more important when your QB is a seasoned veteran like Mayfield coming off a strong year.
One team that seems to have him on their radar is the Minnesota Vikings.
The team reportedly is willing to do “whatever it takes” to sign Mayfield this offseason.
In reality, Tampa Bay doesn’t have to worry about losing Baker Mayfield because he can be slapped with the franchise tag, a one-year deal for 2024.

The franchise tag window opens in late February. It allows teams to designate one pending free agent to play on a predetermined one-year salary.
Kirk Cousins is getting set to hit free agency this spring as well, but it should be noted that Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and quarterback Kirk Cousins have both expressed an interest in the latter’s return to the team next season.
Adofo-Mensah has said he intends to bring Cousins back next season. And the 35-year-old passer is on the books for more than $28 million next season anyway, per Spotrac.
After the season he just had, the Bucs are not letting Mayfield getaway.
