Baker Mayfield is reportedly set for a major payday with the Buccaneers on the back of his exploits this season.
The team’s playoff run ended with a 31-24 loss to the Lions on Sunday night, but it’s been nothing short of impressive considering they were expected to land the No. 1 pick this year on the back of Tom Brady’s retirement.
Mayfield, who was on a one-year deal, is wanted back in Tampa Bay after firing the Bucs to a Wild Card win over the Eagles. He threw for 349 yards in Sunday’s loss to Detroit, which marks the third-highest in franchise playoff history.
Head coach Todd Bowles, for one, would like to see him back next season.
“He most definitely has,” he said in regard to whether the quarterback has earned himself a new deal. “Obviously, it’s too early to talk about that and business is business, but Baker had a hell of a year. We love him. The guys love him. And we’ll see what the future holds.”
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, there is mutual interest between the player and the team, with Mayfield said to be after a “big-time quarterback deal.”
Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline has also reported that the QB is expected to receive a deal that would see him earn $40-45 million a year.
