Fans are further understanding why Baker Mayfield is not starting for the Carolina Panthers after his latest throw in practice.
Mayfield came out before the season as the clear cut 1st QB on the roster, but his play on the field has been less than ideal, and when you combine his injuries with bad play, it’s no secret why the team decided to keep him on the bench in favor of PJ Walker.
During practice on Thursday, the former No. 1 overall pick had a wild overthrow that was nowhere near its net target. In fact, we don’t have a clue where that ball actually landed, but you do hear that it hit something.
Mayfield will be the backup while healthy for the second straight week, as Walker makes his fourth straight start since becoming the starter in Week 6 after Mayfield suffered a high ankle sprain.
The first pick of the 2018 draft by the Browns only had a 1-4 record when Matt Rhule was the head coach. They are 1-2 under Wilks, and the team still realistically has a shot to make it to the playoffs with their 2-6 record.
The NFC South is led by the Atlanta Falcons at 4-4 with Tampa Bay and New Orleans a game back at 3-5. Carolina was ever so close to pulling off a miracle last week in Atlanta when PJ Walker connected with wide receiver DJ Moore for a 62-yard touchdown pass with 12 seconds left. However, an unsportsmanlike penalty turned the extra point into a 48-yard attempt, which kicker Eddy Pineiro missed.
