Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Baker Mayfield has sounded off on the petition he filed with his wife, Emily, over a reported “potential misappropriation of $12 million.”
As reported by Billy Gates of KXAN in Austin, Texas, the Mayfields filed a petition to receive financial records dating back to 2018 to understand what happened to $12 million in unaccounted for money:
“Attorneys for Baker and Emily Mayfield filed a petition in Travis County District Court to request information regarding the potential misappropriation of $12 million by an Austin investment firm where Mayfield’s family members work.
The petition was filed Tuesday in the 250th District Court and attorneys are asking the defendants — Camwood Capital Management Group, Camwood Ventures, Texas Contract Manufacturing Group, Unitech, Apex Machining and Lor-Van — to turn over financial records from 2018-2023 and for witnesses to provide oral depositions to help the Mayfields figure out where their money has gone over the course of five years.”
The 28-year-old quarterback briefly spoke on the matter on Tuesday, via Rick Stroud and Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times:
“I’ll say this, it’s been a long time coming for that. I’m not going to comment on any details, but yeah, I’ve been dealing with that stuff for years now. So, mentally, I’m in a much better headspace so we’re ready to roll.”
Mayfield signed a one-year pact with the Buccaneers worth up to $8.5 million this offseason. Tampa Bay’s starting quarterback of the previous three years, Tom Brady, announced his retirement for a second time on Feb. 1.

The Los Angeles Rams lost starting quarterback Matthew Stafford for the final stretch of 2022 with a spinal cord contusion. The QB-desperate Rams then picked up Mayfield, who showed improved play under Sean McVay by completing 63.6 percent of pass attempts for 850 yards, four touchdowns and two picks.
Mayfield and the Bucs will open their 2023 season with a road game against the defending NFC North champion Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 10.
