Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has suggested that a trade could be imminent as it appears he has no desire to play for his current team, though he has admitted that he might have to stay put for one more year if the right team doesn’t come knocking.
Ekeler requested a trade from the Chargers back in March and was granted permission to speak to prospective suitors. However, he has had difficulty finding a suitable landing spot as he seeks an exit from L.A.
The RB discussed the status of his trade request in a recent interview on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio, explaining he’s keen on finding a long-term option but might have to play for the Chargers another year before leaving in free agency if he can’t find a new team.
He described the possibility as the worst-case scenario.
“When it comes down to what’s going on with the whole trade and all that stuff, really, look, we’re trying to find a long-term partner,” he offered. “Look, I guess the worst-case scenario right now out of all of it, I’ll come back and I’ll have to play for the Chargers for a year and bet on myself and then be a free agent next year.”
Ekeler also revealed he felt disrespected by the Chargers, who have failed to make him a contract offer that matches his talent or his production over the last two seasons.
