The Atlanta Falcons may be sitting at 5-7, but the terrible division they are in means they still have a shot at winning it.
Unfortunately, things just got a whole lot tougher after an injury to a star player leaves him done for the season. When talking to reporters Wednesday, Falcons coach Arthur Smith announced tight end Kyle Pitts will miss the rest of the 2022 season after undergoing knee surgery.
Pitts reportedly tore his MCL on Nov. 20 against the Bears.
Smith added that ”there’s nothing that concerns us” when discussing the long-term effects of the injury for the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Pitts shared a photo on Instagram on Tuesday night after the surgery:

Pitts was originally placed on injured reserve the day after their 27-24 victory over the Chicago Bears in Week 11. That left the door open for him to return in Week 17. There’s little reason to risk further injury to a player who figures to be a critical piece of the passing game in the future.
Despite sitting at 5-7, the Falcons are only a half-game behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for first place in the NFC South.
The 2021 Pro Bowler caught 28 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games.
