A running back for the Atlanta Falcons has fallen afoul of the law, with reports noting he was arrested and charged this Wednesday.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Keith Smith was taken into police custody after getting stopped in the Buckhead area and has since been hit with traffic charges.
The Falcons declined comment after FOX 5 reached out to them but did note that they were aware of the matter. The police also refused to disclose the specifics.
“We are aware of a legal matter involving Keith Smith this afternoon and have been informed of its details,” the team stated. “We will have no further comment at this time.”
Keith Smith Has Been An Important Player For The Falcons
Smith, 31, has been with the Hawks since 2019 following spells with the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders. He appeared in all 17 games for Atlanta last season and participated in 25 percent of offensive snaps while being involved in 60 percent of special teams snaps.
While he doesn’t operate as a runner or receiver, Smith is an excellent blocker whose play was instrumental in creating running lanes for offensive players, which is why he was afforded so much playing time in 2022.

The former San Jose State fullback re-signed with the Falcons in March, inking a one-year deal. And, given that the Falcons drafted RB Bijan Robinson as the eighth overall pick this year, Smith’s blocking will be crucial.
