A former player for the New England Patriots has shared the reason he believes Robert Kraft won’t fire Bill Belichick.
The Pats are in a real rut right now and are coming off of a blowout loss to the New Orleans Saints in which they couldn’t get a single score. Their 1-4 start to the season marks the first time they’ve been that poor in their first five games since Belichick’s first term as head coach in 2000.
The Pats have been outscored 72-3 in their last two games yet it doesn’t appear that Belichick is in any danger of losing his job, though speculation is rife at the moment.
Asante Samuel, a former cornerback who won two Super Bowls with the Pats, has a theory on why Belichick should be safe no matter how much he loses. The four-time Pro Bowler reckons it’s because Kraft is scared of Belichick.
“It seems like Mr. Kraft is scared of Coach Belichick. He has all the power, all the glory but you’re the one that can step in and take this away but you’re not doing it,” he told TMZ in an interview.
“You’re letting the whole Patriots legacy just continue to die and look like it belongs to one man. I wonder if that is true – if Belichick has something over him because I don’t know why this is lasting so long and everyone still believes in Belichick.”
The Pats have been in shambles ever since Tom Brady left and have missed the playoffs twice on the back of his departure. Brady, meanwhile, secured a seventh Super Bowl before retiring, proving he was nowhere near washed.

Making this even more embarrassing for Belichick is, in fact, responsible for the former superstar QB leaving.
“This terrible team that everybody sees is a terrible team,” Samuel added, noting that Brady “can come right now, today, and win a Super Bowl for the New England Patriots. Because that’s Tom Brady.”
The Patriots have the Las Vegas Raiders up next. The way things are going, it wouldn’t be shocking if they’re 1-5 by the end of that game.
