The Arizona Cardinals’ trolled longtime nemesis Russell Wilson in a since-deleted tweet following Friday night’s preseason win over the Denver Broncos.
Wilson actually had a stellar outing in the brief preseason action he saw, completing seven of 13 pass attempts for 93 yards and a touchdown. Arizona went on to win 18-17 thanks to a last-second David Blough game-winning touchdown pass to Brian Cobbs that was followed up by a successful two-point conversion.
The Cardinals tweeted at the Broncos with a video message that said “safe travels.” The video featured the viral “not real” airplane meme and poked fun at Wilson, who admitted to working out for four hours during the team’s plane ride to London last year.
As previously noted, the Cardinals wound up deleting the tweet. But once something is posted on the internet, it stays there forever. Fortunately, one TikTok user caught the tweet and posted it before the Redbirds took it down:
Wilson and the Cardinals went toe-to-toe for 10 seasons (2012 to 2021) in bitter NFC West showdowns. Wilson went 11-8-1 in 20 games against Arizona, tossing 32 touchdowns against only nine interceptions. The only team to have handed Wilson more losses up to this point of his career? The Los Angeles Rams, who are an impressive 13-8-0 against No. 3.
Denver and Arizona met in the Mile High City in Week 15 last year, with the Broncos squeaking out a 24-15 victory.
