DeAndre Hopkins just might have his choice of teams to choose from based on the latest report.
According to Sports Illustrated reporter Albert Breer, some NFL teams think that the Cardinals will be releasing Hopkins due to the lack of interest in trading for his contract.
Despite his talent, there isn’t much of a market for Hopkins right now.
“Some teams think that Cardinals are going to cut him, they think the Cardinals will wind up cutting him. His market is not great right now. There’s nobody who was willing to take on Hopkins’ contract and pay the Cardinals initial asking price.”
Breer mentioned the Chiefs and Patriots as the most likely landing spots for the longtime wideout. Hopkins being released would mean a team could sign him for much cheaper than what he is going for right now.
“I think for a team like the Patriots, it would either be no draft-pick compensation or way, way, way down from Arizona’s initial ask, and an adjustment to the contract,” Breer said. “And that obviously gives Hopkins considerable control over the situation, because if you’re going to change the contract, then you have to go to him.
“So I think this is a really, really complicated one, and (the Patriots) haven’t shown great interest. They haven’t really been in it to this point. Like, if his market collapsed completely and he was cut or he was available for almost nothing and is willing to redo his contract, maybe we’re talking about something else.”

Hopkins would carry a 2023 cap hit of roughly $19.5 million if traded.
It would likely be another short-term deal like the one JuJu Smith-Schuster got if he is released and signs with someone, but Hopkins is a much more talented wide receiver and is unlikely to get on a cheap deal at this stage of his career.
Hopkins had 64 catches for 717 receiving yards and 3 scores last year for the Cardinals in 9 games.
