Three months after requesting a trade, Budda Baker and the Arizona Cardinals found a resolution with NFL preseason play drawing closer.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Baker was given $2.4 million in bonuses that includes a $300,000 signing bonus. Rapoport added that Baker was given a raise for the 2024 season as well.
In 2020, Baker and the Cardinals agreed to a massive four-year contract extension worth $59 million. The market for star defensive backs has only skyrocketed ever since, and Baker’s continued strong play on the field understandably led to him wanting to get paid what he’s worth in today’s market.
Arizona drafted Baker in the second round (36th overall) back in 2017. Baker has been named to five Pro Bowls while also earning two First-team All-Pro and as many Second-team All-Pro selections.
Baker has been one of the few positives on an Arizona team that’s been mired in mediocrity since 2016. The Cardinals have only made the playoffs once in Baker’s career, and that culminated in a blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card Round.
