Cameron Sutton, a cornerback, signed with the Detroit Lions as a free agent ahead of the 2023 season. He started playing at Tennessee before being picked 94th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Courtland Sutton grew up in Brenham, Texas, where he attended Brenham High School and excelled in football. As a senior, he earned first-team All-District honors as a tight end and second-team honors as a safety. His team had an impressive 14–2 record during the 2013 season but fell short in the UIL 4A Division 2 state championship game, losing to Aledo.

Courtland Sutton’s college career at SMU began with two games as a true freshman in 2014, but an injury sidelined him, leading to a medical redshirt. He bounced back as a redshirt freshman in 2015, starting all 12 games and recording 49 receptions for 862 yards and nine touchdowns. Following the football season, he played three games for SMU’s basketball team.
As a sophomore in 2016, he continued his strong performance, starting all 12 games and racking up 76 receptions for 1,246 yards and 10 touchdowns. Although he considered entering the 2017 NFL Draft, Courtland opted to return for his redshirt junior year. After finishing that season, he officially declared for the 2018 NFL Draft on December 22, 2017.
Cameron Sutton played his entire collegiate career at the University of Tennessee from 2013 to 2016. As a true freshman, he started all 12 games, recording 39 tackles, two interceptions, one sack, and a touchdown. His sophomore season in 2014 saw him start all 13 games, where he tallied 37 tackles and three interceptions.
In 2015, he contributed on special teams, returning punts and recording one interception and two forced fumbles. However, his 2016 season was interrupted by a fractured right ankle during a game against Ohio in September. He returned in November and finished the season with seven games played.

Courtland Sutton entered the 2018 NFL Draft, and the Denver Broncos selected him in the second round (40th overall). He made an immediate impact, debuting with two receptions for 45 yards in the Broncos’ season-opening win against the Seahawks.
Courtland scored his first touchdown in Week 5 against the Jets and finished his rookie season with 42 receptions for 704 yards and four touchdowns. In 2019, he recorded 1,112 receiving yards and six touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl selection.

In 2023, he signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Detroit Lions, where he started all 17 games, tallying 65 tackles and one interception. Cameron Sutton inked a three-year, $33 million deal with the Detroit Lions, which includes $22.5 million in guaranteed money and a $10.9 million signing bonus. Of the guaranteed amount, $21 million is fully secured. If he remains on the roster by the third day of the 2024 league year, an additional $1.5 million will be fully guaranteed. The final two years of his contract are void and used for salary cap purposes.
On July 24, 2024, Courtland Sutton agreed to a revised two-year contract with no new guarantees or additional money. However, the new contract does feature $1.5 million in performance incentives based on player and team performance.
Previously, Courtland Sutton had signed a four-year extension with the Denver Broncos worth $60 million, with $34.9 million guaranteed. He also received a $6 million signing bonus.
In September 2024, he restructured his deal, converting $11.75 million of his salary into a bonus and adding three void years. This move lowered his 2024 cap hit by $9.5 million but increased the remaining years of the contract by $2.375 million annually.
