Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has announced his return to football, as well as the date he’s set to play.
According to the man himself, he’s poised to suit up for his own Arena League team, the Albany Empire, this coming Saturday. The seven-time Pro bowler had previously revealed plans to play for the Empire this season and, given their uninspired 1-4 record start to the campaign, he’s looking to get on the roster as soon as possible.
It appears he’s set to make his Arena League debut against the Fayetteville Mustangs.
Brown, who spent the majority of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, last played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, helping them win the Super Bowl. He walked out on the team during a game early in January of the following year and hasn’t played in the NFL since.
AB’s final competitive season saw him register 545 yards off of 42 receptions. He also scored four touchdowns.
Should he be half as good as he was in the NFL, Brown could easily be the Arena League’s best player. And Albany could be all the better for it as he’s also reported to have contacted former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton about joining the team.
