Say what you will about Antonio Brown, the dude is one heck of a football player. Sure, he’s a lightning rod for criticism and drama. He seems to wear out his welcome everywhere he goes now, and he’s got a knack for burning down those bridges on his way out. But when he’s on the field, he’s an awfully good NFL wideout.
Was he the best on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during his time there? That’s a tough one to say, what with the likes of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Rob Gronkowski around. But none of those three have AB believing he was anything less than the best on the Bucs during his time there.
During an interview earlier today, Brown vented about the fact that he was supposed to be Tom Brady’s buddy, yet he was on a “prove-it” deal, while Brady’s other “buddy,” Rob Gronkowski, was playing on a one-year, worth $8-million guaranteed. At one point in his rant, Brown asks the question, “Who’s better than me over there?”
With all due respect to AB, the answer to that question is not as easy as he seems to think. Mike Evans would certainly garner a lot of votes, having surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in each of his first seven seasons — and he’s just 54 yards away from making it eight straight. And then there’s Chris Godwin, whose 1,103 total receiving yards and 78.8 yards per game are both tops on the team this season.
That Gronk guy isn’t too shabby either. He’s only one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game.
So…yeah. Sorry, AB. You’re great… But the best? That’s debatable.
