Antonio Brown promised that he was going to make his return to football on Saturday and a large crowd showed up. But he didn’t play.
The controversial former NFL star had promised to play in a home game on May 27, but he didn’t even suit up.
Fans were pissed as they felt they were lied to.
The Albany Empire ended up selling a sold a record number of tickets in anticipation of Brown suiting up.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers star is now trying to make up for his decision to play by stating he’s “definitely” suiting up for the team on June 17.
“We’re trying to bring a celebration and celebrate the Black community. So I’m definitely going to play June 17 and we’re going to have a big celebration for Juneteenth and all the Black communities here locally.”

In the meantime, the former NFL WR is attempting to recruit Cam Newton. Brown, who hasn’t played in the NFL since running off the field in the middle of a game for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, is recruiting the former Pats’ quarterback to help him in getting publicity for his National Arena League team, the Albany Empire.
Based on his track record though, it will be a surprise if Brown actually plays and it will be an even bigger surprise if Newton takes him up on the offer.
There’s a good chance that Newton isn’t interested in playing in the arena league as he awaits a possible deal to get back into the NFL.
Newton recently revealed nine teams that he’d be willing to play for as a backup.
