Antonio Brown participated in Albany Empire training this Thursday, with a debut for the Arena League outfit on the mind.
The former NFL wide receiver is unlikely to ever return to the league following the manner in which he fashioned his exit, but that hardly means he’s done with football. The Super Bowl winner is now the owner of the aforementioned team, though that is confusing itself.
In any case, he’s planning to suit up for them when they take on the Fayetteville Mustang this coming Saturday. There’s no word on whether he plans on playing significant minutes, but if Thursday’s training session is anything to go by, we suspect it won’t be an eventful debut.
According to Griffin Haas of ABC News10, the seven-time Pro Bowler ran a single route during the day’s training affair, and it was a very short one. In fact, you could see it right below. We promise it won’t take up much of your time.
A Controversial Ownership Spell
Brown’s ownership of the Empire has gone just about the way you would expect. Several players and a coach have left the team due to late payments, while the 34-year-old is also reported to have locked various roster members out of team hotels, among other things.
The team has been struggling to fill up the seats at MVP Arena, pulling an average of just 2,500 fans to the 17,500-seater venue, which is why Brown has announced that he’ll play. He has also promised former NFL star Cam Newton.
