Rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson managed to turn all of Philadelphia against him in just a few seconds on Thursday night.
The Indianapolis Colts signal caller would taunt the Philly support after putting together the first scoring drive of the night during their preseason clash by doing the “Fly, Eagles, Fly” celebration after a touchdown.
He has taken a bit of heat for the gesture as footage of the taunt spread across social media. However, the young QB isn’t apologizing.
“Sometimes when you get into the end zone, you just freeze up and don’t know what to do. So I was contemplating what I was going to do if I scored or if somebody else scored. So I ran down there and I was just flapping my arms and having fun,” Richardson said after the 27-13 win, per NFL.com. “I hope nobody took it the wrong way. I was just balling, having fun out there, and enjoying it.”
He must know by now that Eagles fans did not take kindly to the gesture, though they shouldn’t be too upset as it occurred during a preseason game.
Meanwhile, the former Florida Gators star has been named the Colts’ starter for the upcoming season. He threw 6-of-17 on Thursday, also claiming 38 rushing yards.

He was inaccurate for the most part but showed his rushing prowess.
“Yeah, that’s one of his talents. To create those big plays outside the pocket,” Indy head coach Shane Steichen said. “The scramble plays when guys are coming three-on-blitzes, obviously we’ve got to look at those and get those things picked up better. But just his ability to create outside the pocket is definitely going to help us.”
Richardson should make his competitive debut when the Colts play their season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 10.
