It does not matter how bad the coronavirus pandemic gets, nobody will ever forget how Bill O’Brien suddenly and shockingly traded star WR DeAndre Hopkins away to the Arizona Cardinals in a trade that gave them little in return.
Not only did Texans and opposing fan bases think this was nuts, but an unnamed NFL executive has now ripped him during an interview with Mike Sando of The Athletic:
“IT IS AMAZING IN THE NFL THAT SOME TRADES ARE SO LOPSIDED STILL,” AN EXEC SAID. “THE HOPKINS THING WAS A JOKE. HOW THE DAVID JOHNSON CONTRACT WAS INCLUDED IN THE DEAL JUST ASTOUNDS ME.”
On top of trading Hopkins to the Cardinals, the Texans then made it even worse by taking on the full amount of Johnson’s albatross of a contract. At imes in 2019, Johnson was a 2nd-string and 3rd-string RB.
“ON THAT ONE, IT WAS LIKE, ‘WAIT, WHO IS GETTING WHAT PICKS HERE?’” THIS EXEC SAID. “ON THIS ONE, ARIZONA WAS BASICALLY SCREWED ON THE DAVID JOHNSON CONTRACT AND HOUSTON JUST BAILED THEM OUT.”
The trade was atrocious that even Madden 20 wouldn’t allow it.
There’s a reason why Texans fans have stated they wouldn’t be upset if Deshaun Watson asked for a trade. He doesn’t deserve this and head coach Bill O’Brien doesn’t deserve his talent.
