The Dallas Cowboys fell to the San Francisco 49ers, 23-17, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday evening during their Wild Card battle. The Cowboys had a chance to pull off a miracle comeback late in the ballgame. They needed to drive 80 yards for a game-winning touchdown with no timeouts and less than a minute remaining, but weren’t able to get it done.
After the game, the fan base seemed to be sick of their team falling short, so they threw trash at some of the Cowboys players. Defensive end Demarcus Lawrence even appeared to use his helmet to block a piece of trash from hitting him.
The fans also appeared to be angry at the officials for what they felt were some questionable calls late in the game. So they showed their displeasure by throwing trash at the refs as they made their way off the field as well.
With no timeouts on the 49ers 40 yard line and only 14 seconds remaining, Dak Prescott chose to run the ball 15 yards and slide. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, they were unable to get another play off after that, sealing the Niners’ upset victory.

Cowboys fans are not happy with the fact that the official responsible for spotting the ball took so long to get back into the play. Because he was unable to touch the ball in time, the Cowboys’ offense had to wait to run their next time, and time expired before Prescott could spike the ball to spot the clock and give them one last chance.
It was a controversial end to a thrilling game between these two longtime rivals. The Niners will go on to face the Packers in the Divisional Round, and the Cowboys are going home.
