Tempers flared during the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp session Saturday and Travis Kelce was at the forefront of a physical altercation.
After Travis Kelce hauled in a touchdown pass from All-Pro quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the star tight became upset at backup linebacker Jack Cochrane and threw a punch at him. Kelce seemed to be upset that Cochrane tried to knock the ball out of Kelce’s hands at the end of the play
Head coach Andy Reid finally addressed the incident on Sunday. He stated he never approached Kelce about it because Kelce came up to him and apologized.
The 33-year-old acknowledged his mistake publicly on Twitter Saturday.
“Gotta be a better teammate gotta be a better leader… plain and simple,” he wrote.

Tussles between teammates during training camp are not uncommon as the combination of competition, hot weather, and lower-tier players trying to get a roster spot can lead to emotions boiling over.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid argued fights are counterproductive.
“Fighting is a waste of time,” Reid said after Saturday’s practice. “You get thrown out of games doing it, you get hurt out here doing it. But they’re going to jaw. It’s hot, humid. They’re going to jaw a little bit. Just as long as there are no punches thrown, we’re all right.”
Cochrane went undrafted in 2022. He was signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad last year in late August before earning a spot of the 53-man roster in September.
He appeared in 15 games in 2022 and recorded nine tackles.
Coming off another Super Bowl victory, Travis Kelce led all NFL tight ends in catches (110), yards (1,338), and touchdowns (12) last season.
